As the summer holidays are drawing near, the Diocesan Offices of the Patriarchate of Venice for Pastoral Tourism Promotion and Art Heritage advance an enterprising initiative at the Church of San Lio which was erected vicariate for the promotion of Pastoral Tourism and Art Heritage by the Patriarch of Venice, Cardinal Angelo Scola.
Actually, it is a place of worship, prayer meetings and also used for cultural and pastoral activities.
“The Word, the Images” is an opportunity to live in the space offered by the church not only as a place of worship but also a place for meditation and reflection which can help to discover sacred art and a enjoy a restful spiritual atmosphere during the holidays.
The initiative is one of the projects promoted by the Diocese of Venice in favour of tourists. This project intends providing a suitable space where visitors can stop to consult and read books and publications regarding spirituality and Venetian art.
The main idea is establish the Church of San Lio as a haven of the spirit, a place where visitors can explore a meaningful experience and relaxation while, very often, tourists encounter a frenetic and dynamic atmosphere in visiting our splendid city.
The Church of San Lio is very close to Rialto and on the way to San Marco; it is visited by many tourists besides being a point of reference to Venetians. Within the church there are works by Tiziano, Tiepolo, Lombardo and contemporary art. There are often musical events open to all.
Here, the tourists can read books and publications in various languages (dealing with Spirituality, Art, Iconography, Sacred Scriptures, Theology), which surely enrich and make the initiative more striking: the consultation of books is open to all those who wish to take advantage and, of course, free of charge.
Through this initiative the church of Venice offer this original occasion to help visitors to discover - through “The Word, the Images” of rare beauty - that the period of holidays “is not a void space but a space full of sense: a time to appreciate listening to each other and to intensify knowledge giving space to all those free activities which nourish in the heart the desire of something which goes beyond, of something which transcends and transfigures the materiality in which we are immersed at different levels, These special moments introduce into the Mystery”.
